This museum has so much influence from Europe, mostly the spirit of Enlightenment Era that came into view in 18th century. Built in 1862 by the Dutch Government under Governor General JCM Radermacher was to respond to the needs of the association of Bataviaasch Genootschap van kunsten en Wetenschappen which aimed at doing scientific researches in Dut Indies areas. This museum was opened in 1868 but institutionally this museum was born way back in 1778 when Bataviaasch Genootschap van Kunsten en Wetenschappen was formed by Dutch government.
