On Wednesday, October 2nd, 2024, Indonesian students from the IISMA program at Hanyang University ERICA organized an Indonesian Culture and Historical Exhibition to celebrate Indonesian National Batik Day. The event took place at the Democratic Square in front of the Student Welfare Building and aimed to showcase Indonesia's rich culture while marking the awardees’ success in the IISMA Culturise Challenge.
More than 150 participants joined the celebration, eager to experience a taste of Indonesia. One of the highlights was the free traditional food, which included Bubur Manado, Bubur Sumsum, Pecel, Rendang, and Es Kuwut. Many attendees had never tasted these dishes before, and they enjoyed the flavors that Indonesia had to offer.
Along with food, participants received unique souvenirs such as keychains representing famous Indonesian landmarks, batik-patterned fans and tablecloths, pouches, and wayang-themed bookmarks. These mementos allowed everyone to take a piece of Indonesian culture home, with batik taking center stage as the event's theme.
The event wrapped up with a fun interactive quiz that tested participants' knowledge of Indonesia’s history, geography, and culture. Winners walked away with special prizes, including Indomie and STMJ (a mix of milk, egg, honey, and ginger).
Overall, the Indonesian Culture and Historical Exhibition was a huge success, bringing together international students, faculty, and staff from Hanyang University ERICA. It highlighted the beauty of Indonesian traditions and fostered cultural connections through food, souvenirs, and engaging activities. The IISMA Awardees hope the event sparks further interest and appreciation for Indonesia's diverse heritage.
